Dr. Mark Labberton
Dr. Mark Labberton is the Clifford L. Penner Presidential Chair Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Preaching at Fuller Seminary, where he served as president from 2013 to 2022. A seasoned pastor, scholar, and global Christian leader, he brought a vision for theological education that integrates spiritual formation, academic excellence, and public engagement.
Before his tenure at Fuller, Labberton served for 16 years as senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, where he cultivated a deep commitment to global ministry and justice. He co-founded ScholarLeaders to support theological education in the majority world and has served on the boards of Langham Partnership and International Justice Mission. A sought-after speaker and writer, his books include Called: The Crisis and Promise of Following Jesus Today and The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor.
A Washington State native, Labberton embraced a personal relationship with Christ during his undergraduate years at Whitman College before earning his M.Div. from Fuller Seminary. He has spent decades mentoring Christian leaders navigating the complexities of faith and public life. He and his wife, Janet, share a deep love for hospitality, community, and global ministry.
